Arcadia twins help earn national title

Arcadia twins Danielle and Dominique Williams were part of St. Mary’s High School’s national championship basketball team.

The Lady Knights were a perfect 30-0 and won the Division I state basketball championship.They fnished the season ranked number-one in the country by both ESPN and USA Today.

Among the team’s accomplishments was a title in the prestigious Nike Tournament of Champions. The Lady Knights defeated five nationally ranked teams from around the country and the Australian high school national champions.

Shilpa Tummala and Cortnee Walton, who will be playing basketball next year at Harvard University and the University of Louisville, respectively, were named Arizona McDonald’s All American players, and have been named WBCA Honorable Mention All Americans. Tummala was the Gatorade Arizona Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Coach Curtis Ekmark was named the Naismith Girls High School Basketball Coach of the Year.

The Williams’ teammates included Tummala, Courtney Ekmark, Cortnee Walton, Brandee Walton, Chloe Johnson, Ariah Evans, Aunise Evans and Megan Looney.
